    陈牧：寡人闻，明主亦为良匠，何也？先生教我。

    萧凡：臣以为是也，良匠无弃材，明主无弃士，良匠能尽其木之性而用，是无弃遗之材；明主能尽其人之行而用，是无弃遗之士。斯二者，惟良匠明主及之。

    陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人受教矣。

    萧凡：臣以为，君为元首，臣为股肱，明其一体，相待而成，股肱惟人，良臣惟圣，手足具乃成人；忠良备乃成圣。《书》曰：同力度德，同德度义。力钧则有德者胜，合德则秉义者强。

    陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人谨受教。

    萧凡：臣以为，俭者，德之共也。存其心，养其性，俭约也。天理在人曰性，性者，生之质也。养，涵也。俭欲知足，可以养性矣。祸莫大于不知足。故人君当以俭德涵养其性，不至于奢侈。守静能为天下正。静，无为也。修，正也。人君宜静而无为，以修正其身耳。俭则人不劳，静则下不扰。《书》曰：用静，吉；用作，凶。
